Our Story
Legal Counsel Built Around People, Not Process
Sukhothai Law was founded on a quiet conviction — that families in difficult circumstances deserve steady, human guidance, not hurried appointments and dense paperwork.
Back to HomeWho We Are
A Firm Founded in Sukhothai
Sukhothai Law opened its doors on Thanon Charodvithithong with a single focus: family matters handled with the care they warrant. The founding partners had both seen how impersonal and adversarial the legal process could become for families, and they wanted to offer something different — a practice that slowed down, listened carefully, and worked toward outcomes that were genuinely liveable for everyone involved.
Over the years, our practice has grown through word of mouth among families in the Sukhothai province and among foreign residents who needed English-language support navigating Thai family law. We have never taken on more work than we can handle well. That constraint keeps our service quality steady and our relationships with clients close.
Today, we handle three clearly defined areas of family legal support — private consultations, parenting plan assistance, and comprehensive case management — because these are the areas where we can be most useful. We refer out anything beyond that scope rather than stretch further than our expertise allows.
Our Mission
What Guides Our Practice
Dignity in Every Interaction
Family situations can bring a great deal of strain. We hold space for that and treat every person who walks through our door with respect, regardless of the complexity of their situation.
Honest Advice Over Comfortable Answers
We tell clients what the law actually allows, not what they hope to hear. This takes more courage but leads to better decisions and fewer surprises later.
Children's Wellbeing as a Compass
In any matter involving children, their welfare shapes our recommendations and document drafting. Legal outcomes that harm children are not outcomes we are willing to pursue.
Unhurried, Written Communication
We follow every meeting with a written summary so that nothing is forgotten or misunderstood. Our clients always have a record they can return to.

How We Work
Standards We Hold Ourselves To
Strict Confidentiality
Client information is never shared outside the firm. All matters are held in accordance with Thai professional legal standards on client privilege.
Thai Bar Compliance
All advisory and documentation work is conducted in accordance with Thai Lawyers Council regulations and current family law statutes.
Written Records Always
Every consultation and agreed arrangement results in a written document. Clients leave with something they can refer to, share with the other party, or file for their own records.
Child-Interest Framework
We apply a structured child-centred review to all parenting arrangements, drawing on Thai Civil and Commercial Code provisions relating to parental responsibility.
Bilingual Service Delivery
Consultations in English, documentation in Thai where required by law. We translate key documents back into English so clients understand what they are signing.
Proactive Communication
We update clients before they need to ask. Case progress is communicated at agreed intervals and whenever something material changes.
Our Practice
Family Law in the Sukhothai Context
Thai family law sits within the Civil and Commercial Code and gives courts in each province jurisdiction over matters including divorce proceedings, child custody, parental responsibility, and matrimonial property. Families navigating these areas often encounter proceedings that move more slowly than expected, require careful documentation, and carry implications that last for years.
Sukhothai province sits in the lower northern region of Thailand, and its courts handle a steady volume of family matters from both local residents and expatriate families who have made the region their home. Understanding local judicial temperament and court administrative procedures is a meaningful part of effective family legal work here — it is not the same as practising in Bangkok or Chiang Mai.
Our focus on family matters, rather than a broad general practice, means that our knowledge of relevant case law, court procedures, and documentation standards in this area is current and applied regularly. We do not move in and out of family law as workload dictates — it is the centre of what we do.
For foreign nationals, the intersection of Thai family law with home-country legal systems, visa status, and international parenting arrangements adds further layers of complexity. We have supported clients from the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, and several other countries in understanding how Thai proceedings may interact with their home jurisdiction, and we refer to specialist international law counsel where that level of expertise is warranted.
